Terry’s father was from Saskatchewan and arrived in Sydney in 1926/27. Then the depression hit not long after that and he met my mother, who was down here from the country, over in a house at Redfern, and they married in 1935.  They moved to Ann Street in 1939 and Terry had lived there all his life. Surry Hills was considered to be if not quite a slum area, at least a working class area.ut 1960. There was a little group of five houses, all terrace houses. My parents only ever rented. There was a factory opposite us and all around us. He was interviewed in August 1995 by Sue Rosen as part of the South Sydney Social History Project.
