Across the latter part of 2020 SRA undertook a heritage assessment of Anzac Parade, a road which has its origins in the dreamtime and which has evolved as a spine through the LGA conecting sites related tonconflict and defence, from theEuropean invasion to the present day Randwick and Victoria Barracks.
The history of the route and the surrounding area was intensively researched to reveal that it may be at the centre of one of the British Commonwealth's most diverse, longstanding and intense places of military association. Most of it waiting to be connected and revealed to the general public in a coherent manner.
Our thanks go to Margaret Hope of the Daughters of ANZAC, to John and Robert Muscat of the Miitary History Society, Peter Ryan of Victoria Barracks, Stacey Wilson of the NPWS and Georgina Keep of the Randwick Historicaln Society and Randwick Local Studies librarian for their assistance in re-evaluating Anzac Parade as a cultural heritage item, to moving beyond the merely architectural to the intangibilities of the parade as a route.
